Yoruba Group Warns Against Attacks on Tinubu, Accuses Sowore, Yoruba Union of Incitement

The Yoruba Mandate Group (YMG) Worldwide has cautioned a Yoruba socio-political union, Ìgbìmò Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá, to desist from “unnecessary criticisms” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
YMG also warned Sahara Reporters’ publisher, Omoyele Sowore, against using his media platform and social media handles to incite Nigerians against the government.
The warning was issued by YMG Convener, Akogun Banji Ojo, in a statement on Tuesday while reacting to a September 16 Sahara Reporters publication titled: “Yoruba Union Says Tinubu is Confused, Out of Ideas, Warns Nigerians Not to Repeat Mistake of Electing Him.”
In the said report, Ìgbìmò Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá accused President Tinubu of using propaganda to mask the harsh realities of hunger, poverty, and economic hardship in the country. The group’s leaders, Olusola Badero and Princess Balogun, claimed that the dignity of the Yoruba people has been eroded due to the President’s economic policies, which they said was fueling an unprecedented humanitarian crisis.
But Ojo dismissed the group as “faceless” and its leaders as “impostors” allegedly being used by the opposition to discredit the administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Only the Yoruba Mandate Group is properly positioned to speak for the Yoruba people. These other groups are tools of the opposition working against President Tinubu and the Yoruba nation”, Ojo stated.
He stated that Tinubu’s administration has made significant economic progress, citing a decline in inflation to 20 percent, rising foreign reserves nearing $42 billion, and record revenues since 2023. According to him, states now have adequate funds to pay salaries and gratuities while still executing capital and social projects.
“Before President Tinubu came on board, the CBN and NNPC were debt traps, and Nigeria was borrowing to subsidize petrol and dollars. It took courage and political will for Tinubu to dismantle those policies and restore hope for Nigerians and future generations”, Ojo said.
The YMG Convener also accused Sowore of “political rascality” under the guise of activism, warning him to know the limits of his actions under the law.
“YMG will not allow fake Yoruba groups and the likes of Sowore to rubbish the good works of the President. All they choose to see are hunger and backwardness they imagine, while ignoring the real progress being made”, he added.
