Uromi: Reps member advises northern hunters against hunting in South

A member of the House of Representatives, Kabiru Alhassan Rirum, has appealed to hunters from the Northern part of the country to desist from moving to the South for hunting purposes.
Kabiru, who represents Rano/Bunkure/ Kibya Federal Constituency, reasoned that such movement for hunting purposes is no longer feasible in present-day Nigeria.
Speaking during a condolence visit to the families of the Uromi hunters in Torankawa town in Bunkure LGA of Kano State, yesterday, Rirum stressed that, “the present day Nigeria requires people doing businesses that would not create suspicion that might result or lead to uncertainties”.
He regretted that, “carrying dangerous weapons and moving around with them from one end to another in this sensitive period of insecurity in the land will surely send a bad signal and result in chaos”.
He recalled that, recently, over 30 hunters from his hometown, Rano, were apprehended in Ondo State, adding that he had to personally reach out to the Ondo State governor, including showing clear evidence that they were not criminals before they were released.
He added: “If those people in Ondo State, who had arrested our Rano hunters, were as senseless as the Uromi mob, what do you think would have happened? The story would have been different by now”.
Rirum donated N5 million to the victims’ families and promised to build an Islamic school in the area, to cater for the education of the orphans of the deceased hunters.
Speaking also, the State Chairman of the NNPP, Senator Masud el Jibrin Doguwa, expressed shock over the tragedy and prayed for the victims. He affirmed that the school project would take off soon, adding that the aim of the building was to reassure the victims’ children that they were not alone or neglected in the scheme of things.
