Peace has returned to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Northern Cross River, following the collective decision by elders and stakeholders of the party to ditch their differences and reconcile with the party’s State Chairman, Hon. Venatius Ikem.
A reconciliation meeting, which was held at Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe’s residence successfully addressed the contentious issues surrounding the suspension of Ikem as State Chairman of the PDP and the subsequent reversal of the suspension as well.
Senator Jarigbe, who represents Cross River North Senatorial District, played a key role in facilitating the meeting.
Following intense deliberations, party leaders agreed to uphold the National Working Committee (NWC’s) decision to reinstate the suspended chairman, bringing an end to the leadership dispute.
Speaking at the meeting, Sen. Agom Jarigbe, the leader of the PDP in Cross River State, reassured members that the party was back to remain united despite recent challenges.
“The North remains the stronghold of the PDP in Cross River. With this reconciliation, our party will only grow stronger.
“Let this reconciliation come from our hearts. Since we are in the season of Lent, let this be our penance”, he said.
Also speaking, member representing Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency, Hon. Godwin Offiono expressed gratitude to constituents for their continued support and reaffirmed his commitment to serving the party.
Similarly, Hon. Peter Akpanke, member representing Obudu, Bekwarra and Obanliku Federal Constituency in the 10th House of Reps encouraged party faithful to remain steadfast in their support for the PDP and dismissed rumours of his defection.
Hon Ikem thanked Sen. Jarigbe for his role in resolving the crisis and ensuring party unity.
He apologized to party members for the recent instability in the party, pledging to provide better leadership moving forward.
Ikem, a former National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, was suspended by the State Working Committee of the party over disciplinary issues.
However, the National Working Committee of the party invalidated the suspension and reinstated the state party chairman.
