Founder of a foremost private school in Abia State – International Excellent Child Academy, Uratta, Aba – Nze Uwaoma Nnadi, has called on the Federal Ministry of Education to introduce electoral processes and values in the curriculum of the basic education level in Nigeria, in order to scale up political education in the country with a viewing to making the nation’s electoral processes much better.
Nnadi who made the call during activities heralding the election of the school’s new students’ leadership, introducing civic studies subject into the curriculum would help to inculcate electoral processes and values in the citizenry from the basics.
“We have had challenges in our electoral processes in the country over the years resulting in election malpractices with its attendant endless post election litigations.
“These electoral challenges could be firmly tackled if election, its processes and values are taught our children from the basics,” he argued.
Aguguom Nnadi, director of the school, added that it is imperative that governments at all levels introduce electoral processes in schools in the country, pointing out that when citizens are introduced to politics from the basics, it will make the right people participate in politics in the country while the desired leaders get elected.
“Look at what happened in Abia in 2023; it was because the right candidates participated in the election that a Governor in the person of Dr. Alex Otti was elected and you can see what he is doing in Abia today,” he enthused, adding that after supervising the election, which led to the emergence of new student leaders in the school, he was optimistic that with the level of political awareness being imparted into the students, they would fit into the nation’s political trajectory and even redefine it for the better in future.
