The Nigeria Police have invited the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, to appear before its Force Intelligence Department in Abuja over alleged defiance of security directive banning all forms of Durbar activities during the just concluded Eid-el-fitr. celebrations in the state.

A letter to that effect,  dated April 4, 2025, and signed by the Commissioner of Police (Operations), CP Olajide Rufus Ibitoye requested the monarch to report by 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

The letter indicated that the invitation was related to the alleged decision of the monarch to proceed with traditional Durbar activities during the Eid festivities, despite its official suspension of such events due to security concerns.

Abeya recalls that the police in the state, in conjunction with its sister security organisations had banned all forms of Durbar activities in the state following security concerns.

However, during the festive periods, there were reported indicators that the monarch may not have strictly observed the directive.

The Commissioner of Police, Kano State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, had earlier set up an eight-man panel to investigate any defiance to the Command’s overt ban on all forms of Durbar/Horse-riding through out the Sallah Celebration,

The Command had also extended an invitation to Shamakin Kano, Wada Isyaku for interrogation following alleged defiance on the Durbar ban.

The Special Investigation Panel was charged to expedite action and ensure justice was served, while restating that anyone found culpable would be made to face the full wrath of the law
