Obi to serve as running mate to Atiku not true – Obidient Movement

The Obidient Movement, the Peter Obi national political movement with huge presence in the Diaspora, has denied a widely circulated media report that Mr. Peter Obi, former Anambra Governor and presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, has been penciled down to run as vice-presidential candidate to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar on the platform of the yet-to-announced new coalition, in the 2027 presidential election intensifies.
In a statement issued on Monday – earlier today, May 19 – by its
Director, Strategic Communication & Media, Nana Kazaure, the Obidient Movement explained that the group had been inundated with calls from members within and outside the country, including other members of the public, over the Atiku-Obi pairing claim, but assured that “the publication is imaginary to the author”.
“We are tempted to ignore it (but) for the possible far-reaching misconception it will have in the public space,” the Obidients stated. “While frank and cordial engagements with our partners and stakeholders towards a coalition continue amicably, the Obidient Movement would like to state emphatically that there is no truth or basis to the report whatsoever.”
“Without any risk of contradiction, we would like to reiterate that Mr. Obi has maintained that his objective and his involvement in a coalition, is to provide a united front to tackle issues of bad governance, corruption, hunger, poverty, poor healthcare, out of school children syndrome and the myriad of other problems daily afflicting the people of Nigeria,” the Obidients stressed.
“We want politics that is progressive, standing firmly with the people and serving the great people of Nigeria and not politics just for the sake of grabbing power.”
Reiterating that Obi remains a member of the Labour Party until circumstances dictate otherwise, in which he will announce such a change himself, the group cautioned against “sensationalism and speculation on these matters”, pointing out that “at this difficult time, all Nigerians, the media inclusive, should emphasise and contribute to building a better country.”
