Murder Allegations: Three UCTH Nurses for interrogation over patient’s death

Three nurses from the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) are currently facing interrogation by the Police over the death of a young man who was brought to the hospital under mysterious circumstances.
The Cross River State Police Commissioner, Olusegun Omosanyin, made this known while responding to the recent arrest of three nurses from the hospital which led to a showdown by the nurses’ union in the state.
CP Omosanyin explained that the victim, who was from Port Harcourt, had come to collect a debt from a suspect when he was allegedly taken to the hospital and later found dead in the morgue. The police claim that the nurses took the victim’s belongings, including his phone and money, and swapped his SIM card.
The Commissioner stated that the police had sent letters to the hospital requesting the nurses’ cooperation, but they initially failed to respond.
AbeyaNews reports that the nurses were eventually brought in for questioning, but the Commissioner expressed frustration over their alleged lack of cooperation.
“Everything is shrouded in mystery now, the one that swap the sim, collected the sim, did everything, removed the money and some other belongings belonging to the boy.
“Nobody is ready to give us any clue. Okay, how will nurses say he was brought dead, okay who are the people that brought the person dead?
“This is a case of murder, and the family of the deceased have already
started insinuating,” the Commissioner said, adding, “We need to get to the bottom of this. The nurses’ attitude is suspicious, and we will not let it slide.”
When asked about the nurses’ claims that they were not on duty, the Commissioner replied, “That’s not an excuse. As medical professionals, they have a duty to provide information that can help save lives. Their refusal to cooperate is unacceptable.”
The hospital management has not formally responded to the incident. The Commissioner emphasized that the police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the victim’s death and the nurses’ alleged roles
