National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress ( ADC), Senator David Mark, has said that the success of the party in the politics of the country depends on a strong and credible membership base.
Speaking at the inauguration of ADC Membership, Revalidation, Mobilization and Registration ( MRMR) Committee in Abuja on Wednesday (earlier today, January 7), Mark, a former President of the Senate, noted that membership is the lifeblood of every democratic organization.
According to him, for an opposition party founded on “the principles of justice, equity, accountability and people-centered governance,” the actualization of ADC’s ideals rests on a verifiable membership base and effective mobilization across the country.
Stressing that no political party can aspire to national relevance without a strong, active, and properly documented membership base, Mark, who emphasized that membership is the lifeblood of any democratic organization and determines its legitimacy, strength, reach and, ultimately, electoral victory, said:
“As we look ahead to future political engagements, it has become imperative to revalidate our existing members, register new ones, strengthen our grassroots presence, and harmonize our membership records nationwide. This Committee has therefore been entrusted with a critical national assignment.”
Mark explained the purpose of the committee, saying it is expected to “oversee the registration of new members nationwide to ensure inclusiveness, transparency and adherence to party guidelines and democratic principles.
“Develop and implement a nationwide membership mobilization strategy, with particular emphasis on the grassroots at the polling units, ward, local government, and state levels,” the former President of the Senate charged.
“Develop the e-registration platform along with the manual register in a transparent and seamless arrangement. Recommend standardized procedures and systems for continuous membership registration, revalidation, and data management.”
He disclosed that the committee has 30 days to submit an interim report to the ADC National Working Committee ( NWC), urging the panel to discharge its assignment, without bias because unity and credibility are the foundation upon which the future of the ADC will be built.”
