Chairman/ Chief Executive Officer of Coscharis Group, Dr Cosmas Maduka, has urged graduating students of Trinity University, Yaba, Lagos, to translate acquired knowledge into productivity.
Maduka gave the advice on Wednesday – yesterday, March 19 – while delivering the institution’s Third Convocation lecture with the topic, ‘Success is not a Degree.
“It is possible in your time, through your hands, that Nigeria can move from being a land of potential to a land of reality.
“Use your education to fix our economy, innovate technologies and cleaner energy sources, build ethical businesses and be the leaders Nigeria needs.
“Success is not determined by a degree. True wealth comes from values created and added to society. Many young people today pursue wealth without focusing on value creation,” he said.
Maduka said that success requires skills, knowledge and ability to execute.
“Nobody grows or makes success in a comfort zone. Success is a journey, not a destination. I believe it is a combination of training and the right mindset,” he stressed, adding that success requires persistence and willingness to add value.
Maduka added that success would require building credibility, credible relationships, integrity, competence and character, noting that developing a relentless desire to excel against all odds would drive young people to break barriers.
“I overcame obstacles before me and educated myself because I believe that every experience in life is a school.
“To succeed in life, you need to have the right mental attitude, vision and taking actions, because without actions, you will not get there,” he said
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Clement Kolawole, said the choice of the guest lecturer was by divine direction, enthusing that the guest lecturer has a wealth of experience.
In his remarks, Mr Samuel Olatunji, Pro-Chancellor of the university, said the institution trained the graduating students well, expressing the hope that awarding Bachelor’s Degrees to them would be impactful to Nigeria and the entire humanity.
Dr Olufemi Oyisan, Chairman of the occasion, said the institution has infused skills acquisition programmes into its curriculum to further equip students with marketable skills.
