Kano Emirate crises: Sanusi, Ado Bayero appoint, turban separate Galadimas

The uncertainty in the Kano State Emirate council continued at the weekend with Emir Aminu Ado Bayero and Emir Muhammadu Lamido Sanusi appointing separate Galadimas in Kano.
While Emir Bayero appointed Sanusi Lamido Ado Bayero as the Galadima Kano, Emir Sanusi appointed Munir Sanusi Bayero as the Galadima Kano.
These appointments followed the death of the title holder, the Late Galadima Kano, Abbas Sanusi, who passed away recently at the age of 92.
In a statement on Saturday by Bayero’s Press Secretary, Abubakar Balarabe Kofar Mata, the monarch said that the appointment of the new Galadima was based on his competence, dedication, and contributions to the emirate, the state and the nation at large.
The monarch acknowledged his vast experience across various sectors, noting that he had served as a Permanent Secretary at the state level, served as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and had served in various traditional capacities in the last 40 years.
He urged the new Galadima to emulate his predecessors, advising him to maintain and promote kinship bonds, especially in these trying times.
He expressed gratitude to God for the blessing and prayed that the new position would further strengthen his resolve to uphold the dignity and honour of the Kano Emirate, as he has consistently done in the past.
He prayed Allah to guide and bless the new Galadima Kano and expressed appreciation to guests who attended the turbaning ceremony,
Similarly, the 16 th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi announced Munir Sanusi Bayero as the Galadima Kano.
Speaking after the turbaning ceremony held at the Emir’s palace, Sanusi enjoined his new Galadima and four other appointed councilors to demonstrate loyalty, humility and compassion to the common man.
“You have been chosen based on your track records and that of your families, most of you (referring to them individually) have shown and demonstrated loyalty to the emirate and our lineage, the people and the state in general.
“We are aware already of what you have been doing; you have been on the saddle to help the poor and are contributing immensely to the betterment of the society.
“I urge you all to keep it up and ensure that you borrow a leaf from your fathers. May God help you all in discharging your duties,” he said.
The turbaning ceremony was witnessed by family and friends as well as the State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, members of the state Executive Council and few traditional and religious leaders from outside the state.
