Health workers issues two-weeks nationwide strike notice; May begin strike Nov 14

Health workers under the umbrella of Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) have issued a 15-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to meet its demands, stressing that otherwise could lead to withdrawal of services and ultimately leading to disruption of activities at the health care facilities.
National Secretary of JOHESU, Martin Adekunle Egbanubi, in a statement made available to journalists, indicated that all affiliate Unions (MHWUN, NUAHP, SSAUTHRIAI, and NASU) of JOHESU have been directed to ask their branches and state councils to officially communicate the notice to their Chief Executive Officers and employers at the Federal Health Institutions (FHIs).
“Additionally, all organs of JOHESU affiliate Unions have been directed to commence mobilisation for an indefinite strike in case the Federal Government failed to address JOHESU flagship demand of implementation of the adjusted CONHESS within the window period of 15 days as prescribed by Section 41 of the Trade Disputes Act, Cap T8, LFN, 2004”, he said.
He said the demand for the implementation of the adjusted CONHESS is fundamenta! to the conclusion of the ongoing Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) negotiation between the Federal Government and the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU), hence expedited action is required to avoid industrial dispute.
He noted that JOHESU’s national leadership has been keeping members abreast of the development at various conciliation meetings and follow-up on JOHESU outstanding demands especially those contained in the FG/JOHESU MoU of 29th October, 2024.
