Govt warns of stern measures as land grabbers invade two universities, scores of public schools in Cross River
In a brazen display of lawlessness, land grabbers have invaded two universities and scores of public schools in Cross River, intent on encroaching on the institutions’ landed property.
The affected schools include the University of Cross River (UNICROSS), formerly CRUTECH and the University of Education and Entrepreneurship, Akamkpa (formerly College of Education); Government Secondary School, Obio-Asim, Odukpani; Girls’ Secondary School, Ugep and Government Technical College, Obubra.
Their activities have prompted a stern warning from the Cross River State government, which has, through Gilbert Agbor, Special Adviser to the Governor on Asset Management and Recovery, ordered the land grabbers to back-off or face the wrath of the State government.
Reacting to the large-scale invasion of property officially allocated to institutions by the State government, Mr. Agbor described the development as as unacceptable, disclosing that the State Governor has ordered swift recovery of these public assets.
“We condemn the rising cases of land encroachment affecting several schools in the state.
“These include University of Cross River (UNICROSS), formerly CRUTECH; University of Education and Entrepreneurship, Akamkpa (formerly College of Education); Government College, Ikot Ansa (formerly TTC Calabar).
“Others are Government Secondary School, Obio-Asim, Odukpani; Girls’ Secondary School, Ugep; Government Technical College, Obubra (formerly Government Senior Science College); and Government Secondary School (GOVISCO), Ikom.
“Other institutions across the state have also been affected by illegal occupation.
“The government has directed all illegal occupants to vacate these lands without delay.
“Swift and decisive action will be taken against defaulters, regardless of their influence or status.
“Governor Bassey Otu has mandated the immediate recovery of all state properties unlawfully taken over,” Agbor warned, reaffirming government’s commitment to protecting public assets and preventing their misuse.
