Fatima Abubakar: Police arrest three over murder of 35-year old mother, her six children in Kano

Operatives of the Kano State Police Command have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of a 35-year old housewife, Mrs. Fatima Abubakar and her six children, in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano.

The deceased were murdered on Saturday – yesterday, January 17, 2026 – with the youngest baby was thrown into a well.

A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa on Sunday – earlier today, January 18 – listed the suspects as Umar Auwalu, 23, of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters Kano, Isyaku Yakubu, 40, of Sagagi Quarters Kano and and Yakubu Abdulaziz, 21, of Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters Kano.

The suspects, according to the statement, were arrested during a sting operation that lasted between 10pm of 17th January 2026 and 4am of 18th January 2026.

The leader of the gang, Umar Auwalu, who is a nephew to the deceased woman has confessed to the crime, further admitting that the same gang had been responsible for a series of gruesome killings and attacks in the recent past, including the killing and burning of two housewives at Tudun Yola Quarters Kano, the statement added.

Items recovered from the suspects included four clothes with blood stains, the deceased’s two mobile phones, a cutlass, a club (Gora), and some amount of money robbed at the scene, as well as other dangerous weapons.

The Command said that while investigation was in progress, the public should rest assured of its commitment to bringing the perpetrators of crimes to justice.
