Some farmers on their daily farm routine in Niger State have reportedly discovered three explosive devices suspected to be bombs planted by terrorists.
The explosive devices were discovered by the farmers on Tuesday (earlier today, January 6, 2026) in Ganaru community in the Zugurma District of Mashegu Local Government Area of the State.
A community source said the farmers were on their way to the farm for their farming activities when they discovered the explosive devices planted by the road side and immediately raised the alarm.
Chairman of Mashegu Local Government, Jibrin Egade, who confirmed the latest development, told our reporter that the arena had been cordoned off to avoid any explosion that could lead to casualties.
Egade, who expressed shock at the discovery of such dangerous explosives in the community with scarcely any security challenges, said the entire community was alarmed by the discovery, adding that he has informed the security agencies on the matter for immediate action.
When contacted, the Niger State Commissioner of police, CP Adamu Elleman confirmed the development, assuring, however, that the command had deployed bomb experts to the scene as at the time of this report, to assess and possibly detonate the explosive, which he said was one not three as claimed by the villagers.
He urged the people to go about their legitimate businesses without fear of intimidation just as experts have been deployed to ensure the professional evacuation of the explosive device.
The discovery of the explosive device(s) came barely two days after 42 persons where brutally killed by terrorists in a community in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
