Enugu: NPTF begins construction of Police quarters in Ozalla division
The Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) today – Tuesday, January 26, 2026 – flagged off the construction of a six-man rank-and-file quarters at the Ozalla Police Division, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, in a move aimed at improving the welfare and working conditions of police officers.
The ground-breaking ceremony was performed on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun by the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, Mamman Giwa, amid the presence of government officials, senior police officers, community leaders and other stakeholders.
Delivering the address of the IGP, CP Giwa described the project as a “historic milestone” and expressed appreciation to the Nigeria Police Trust Fund for embarking on what he called a timely and impactful intervention.
He noted that although the IGP would have loved to be physically present, official exigencies made it impossible, adding that the police boss conveyed his “warmest regards and best wishes to all distinguished guests and stakeholders present.”
According to Giwa, the IGP is particularly delighted that the project aligns with the Federal Government’s ongoing police reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with strong emphasis on welfare and improved working conditions.
“The Inspector-General of Police expresses his profound appreciation to the Board and Management of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund for embarking on this landmark project aimed at providing decent accommodation for police officers serving in Ozalla Division.
“He is particularly delighted that this intervention comes at a time when the Federal Government, under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has placed premium priority on comprehensive reforms in the Nigeria Police Force, especially in the critical areas of welfare and improved working conditions for officers across the Federation,” he stated.
He added that the project would enhance morale and operational efficiency, while assuring that the Nigeria Police Force would give all necessary support to ensure timely completion.
The Commissioner of Police, however, used the occasion to appeal for further interventions across the state, citing dilapidated police facilities.
Earlier in his speech, the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Mohammed Sheidu, said the project formed part of a nationwide strategy to bridge the accommodation gap faced by police officers.
“The construction of this 6-man rank and file accommodation here in Ozalla, Nkanu West Local Government Area, along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Road, is part of our deliberate effort to address the long-standing accommodation gap faced by police personnel across the country. This gap has affected morale, efficiency, and overall well-being, and we have taken it upon ourselves to begin finding practical, sustainable solutions,” he said.
He commended President Tinubu for his commitment to security sector reform and thanked the Enugu State Government for providing the land.
