The Police in Jigawa have confirmed the death of 11 passengers in a fatal auto-crash that happened in the state on Christmas day.
According to a statement signed the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Lawan Shildu and issued earlier today (Friday, December 26), nine other passengers including women, children and the driver, sustained injuries in the accident, which was caused by a burst tyre of a vehicle in motion, and have been responding to treatment at a nearby hospital.
He said the accident occurred at about 4.30pm yesterday at Bagewu village, Ringim LGA of the State.
The statement disclosed that the accident involved a red Golf 3 saloon with reg. no. LNG 983 XA JOS, driven by a 45-year-old of Randawa village, Mani LGA, Katsina State, and conveying 20 passengers, including six males, eight females and six (children from Masaka village, Ningi LGA, Bauchi State
It explained that the vehicle, which was heading to Dutsi village, Mani LGA, Katsina State, lost control following the the burst tyre and subsequently hit a tree.
“As the investigation commenced, the Jigawa State Police Command strongly warned motorists to desist from high speed and overloading and to always check their vehicle before embarking on any journey.
“The Command reiterated that anyone found violating traffic acts/laws will be arrested, investigated, and prosecuted,” the statement emphasized.
