An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Wednesday remanded a 35-year-old commercial driver, Godwin Waheed, at a correctional centre for alleged sexual assault on a 33-year-old woman.
Justice Abiola Soladoye remanded Waheed after he pleaded not guilty to the charge of sexual assault by penetration.
The charge was brought against him by the Lagos State Government.
Soladoye remanded the defendant at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre and adjourned the case until Oct. 16 for commencement of trial.
Earlier, the State Counsel, Mrs Olufunke Alebiosu told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on Oct.15, 2023 on Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos.
Alebiosu alleged that the defendant sexually assaulted the woman (name withheld) on the bridge by inserting his fingers into her genitals.
The prosecutor also informed the court that she had listed eight witnesses to give evidence in the case.
According to the prosecution, the alleged offence contravenes Section 261 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2015.
