ADC youth wing vows to resist APC’s vote buying in 2027

The youth wing of opposition coalition African Democratic Congress (ADC), the African Democratic Youth Congress (ADYC), has vowed to defend the votes of the electorate during the 2027 general elections.
The ADC youths particularly warned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) that they will mobilise and awaken the consciousness of other Nigerian youths to the grassroots community levels on the grave dangers of vote buying.
ADYC Director General (DG), Murtala Haliru Dantoro, who gave the warning at a press conference in Abuja, emphasised that they believe in a Nigeria where leaders are chosen based on their character, competence, and integrity.
“This conference is a testament to our belief that a better Nigeria is possible, and that we, the youth, will build it! You have heard from my fellow members, who spoke passionately about our vision to be the architects of a new Nigeria, with a clear blueprint for youth empowerment. And the calling on every young Nigerian to join the ADYC.
“I want to leave you with a single, unshakeable truth: What you have witnessed today is a declaration of a new political era, one where the Nigerian youth are no longer content to be followers, but have chosen to be part of the process and to play major roles in leadership with conscience.
“Our message is simple: we refuse to inherit a broken system. We are here to fix it with the strength of unity. We are not just a youth wing; we are the driving force of the ideologies of the coalition party, ADC, and the future of this nation. “Despite the difficulties we are facing, we have to rise and be part of our country’s electoral system. Let’s join the coalition party ADC, let’s vote right. Let’s articulate strategies together to expand the political space for active participation,” the forum appealed.
Declaring readiness to fight vote buying, the youths noted: “We must understand that vote buying is not merely a transaction; it is a betrayal of our collective future. It is the tool that gives power to the wrong people – individuals who prioritise personal gain over public service, and who will inevitably fail to bring the desperately needed development to our communities.
“They buy their way in, and they will only serve themselves. I call upon every young person here, and indeed every youth across Nigeria, to make it your sacred and mandatory exercise to educate and give orientation to our grassroots communities on the grave danger of vote buying. Go into every village, every street, every home, and enlighten our people about the power of their vote and the destructive consequences of selling it.
“Let us expose this electoral fraud that cut across for what it is: a direct assault on the progress and development of our nation,” the youth wing pleaded.
Revealing other plans, the party’s youth wing, noted: “Our mission is to build a nationwide movement—one that is felt in every state, every local government, and every community. We are not interested in a top-down approach. Our strategy is to mobilise from the grassroots up, which we have done and are still doing, empowering young people in their communities to become agents of change. We are setting up local chapters and organising community development projects that tackle real-world problems.
“We are using both traditional outreach and modern digital tools to ensure that our message of hope and action reaches every young Nigerian. “Our movement is symbolised by the ADC’s core value: the handshake. The handshake is a promise of unity, commitment to work together, to respect our differences, and to build a better future, regardless of our tribe, religion, or background.”
