Mbah’s second term non-negotiable — Enugu patriots

A coalition of political stakeholders and community leaders under the aegis of the Enugu State Patriots has declared that Governor Peter Mbah’s second term is non-negotiable, citing his exceptional performance across sectors as the foundation of their support.
The declaration was made yesterday during a high-level consultative meeting at Villa Toscana Hotels, Independence Layout, Enugu.
The event drew prominent Enugu indigenes, former National Youth Leader and National Secretary of the PDP, Sunday Udeh-Okoye, traditional rulers, political office holders, among others.
In a communique issued at the end of the meeting and signed by the Chairman of the communique drafting committee, Prof. Martin Anikwe, the group described Governor Mbah’s leadership as transformational and people-focused.
“There is no doubt that his second term as Governor of Enugu State is sacrosanct, by God’s grace. Our people are more interested in his vision to grow the state’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion in eight years,” the communique stated.
The Patriots said Governor Mbah’s results in just over two years had redefined political loyalty in Enugu State, placing him above party lines.
“With Governor Peter Mbah’s exceptional performance, he has become a viable political party of his own. He is the political party we know, and wherever he leads, Ndi Enugu will follow,” the group declared.
They highlighted major achievements under the Mbah administration, including the construction of 260 Smart Green Schools with over 6,500 new classrooms, 260 modern primary healthcare centres with 3,300 beds, and the ongoing development of 260 farm estates across the state’s 260 wards.
Also noted were his strides in water supply, raising production from 2 million to 120 million litres daily, construction of over 800 kilometres of urban and rural roads, the launch of Enugu Air with three aircraft, the establishment of a mega asphalt plant in Emene, as well as several modern transportation terminals.
They further pointed to the ongoing construction of a 300-bed international hospital and a 5-star conference hotel, and the establishment of a state-wide security surveillance network linked to an advanced Command and Control Centre, touted as the most sophisticated in the country.
The Patriots also reaffirmed their belief in Enugu’s long-standing zoning arrangement, which rotates the governorship among the three senatorial zones every eight years.
They noted that the tradition, which brought in Chimaroke Nnamani (Enugu East, 1999–2007), Sullivan Chime (Enugu West, 2007–2015), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu North, 2015–2023), supports Governor Mbah’s continuation in office until 2031, as he hails from Enugu East.
While recognising Enugu’s historic loyalty to the PDP since 1998, the Patriots stressed that the people are now more aligned with performance-driven leadership than with party labels.
“Our people are no longer just following political parties. They are following results—and Governor Mbah represents that shift,” the communique concluded.
