2027 poll: Political movement cautions INEC over BVAS, IReV failure; Demands electronic transmission of results

In its renewed drive to restore public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral system, a political movement under the aegis of The Collective Movement (TCM) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the optimal electronic transmission of results across all polling units during the 2027 general elections.
The group also urged INEC to guarantee that every ballot counts through the effective deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the INEC Results Viewing (IReV) portal. It further charged security agencies to protect voters rather than intimidate them during elections.
Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, TCM Spokesperson, Nasir Aminu, emphasized that Nigerians would only trust the 2027 polls if INEC ensures a transparent, impartial, and technology-driven electoral process.
“For Nigerians to trust the 2027 elections, INEC must guarantee a process that is transparent, impartial, and technology-driven,” Aminu said. “Every ballot must count. BVAS and IReV must work without compromise. Security agencies must protect voters, not intimidate them. INEC must ensure electronic transmission of results across all polling units.”
He also called on the National Assembly to enact an Electoral Reform Bill mandating real-time electronic transmission of votes, stressing that INEC must “put Nigeria first and ensure the will of the people prevails.”
The group also appealed to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to recontest the 2027 presidential election, expressing confidence in his ability to lead Nigeria out of its current challenges.
“After wide consultations, deep analysis, and careful evaluation of the political landscape ahead of the 2027 presidential election, TCM is calling on Atiku Abubakar to once again offer himself for national service,” Aminu said. “We firmly express our support and confidence in his capacity to lead Nigeria out of its current challenges. We commend him for his consistent inclusion of youths and women and urge him to adopt renewed, data-driven strategies for future engagements.”
Justifying the group’s support, TCM described Atiku as a proven reformer with a strong record in economic management and national unity.
“We call on and support Atiku Abubakar because he has a proven record of economic reforms as Vice President, spearheading privatization and liberalization policies that strengthened Nigeria’s economy,” the statement read. “He is a bridge-builder across tribes and religions — a unifier at a time when Nigeria is more divided than ever. His vision for job creation, education, and restructuring speaks directly to Nigeria’s urgent needs. TCM firmly believes that Atiku Abubakar remains the most prepared, experienced, and capable leader to restore Nigeria’s lost glory and drive genuine national renewal.”
The spokesperson emphasized that TCM is not affiliated with any political party but is instead committed to promoting credible leadership and good governance across Nigeria’s political spectrum.
“TCM is not bound to any single political party. Instead, we stand for credible leadership, integrity, and competence,” Aminu stated. “Our mission is simple but profound — to rally Nigerians behind aspirants who embody service, accountability, and vision, regardless of party affiliation.”
He lamented the country’s current challenges, describing Nigeria as being at a critical crossroads marked by insecurity, poverty, and economic hardship.
“Our dear country stands today at a defining crossroads,” he said. “We face crippling insecurity that continues to claim innocent lives and stifle economic activity; unemployment and poverty that have pushed millions into despair; a faltering economy with uncalculated taxes eroding the earnings of ordinary citizens; endemic corruption and weak institutions that undermine justice and fairness; and a rising wave of foreign-backed ideological polarization subtly threatening our national cohesion and collective existence.”
Aminu concluded by stressing that these challenges are not abstract statistics but the daily realities of Nigerians across regions, tribes, and religions.
