2027: No vacancy for Deputy Governor’s seat, Alia declares

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has dismissed speculations suggesting he plans to replace his Deputy, Sam Ode, in 2027.
Speaking at the swearing-in of new Commissioners at the Government House, Makurdi, on Monday, Governor Alia said there is “no vacancy” for the position of Deputy Governor in the next political dispensation.
He described Ode as a capable partner in governance, adding that he has never contemplated picking another deputy.
“There is no vacancy for any Deputy Governor in 2027. I have a Deputy Governor who understands governance, who is people-oriented, and who is always with the people and for the people,” Alia said.
The Governor praised Ode’s qualities, noting that he is cerebral, experienced, and committed to the welfare of Benue citizens.
“For anyone thinking otherwise, I do not know. My Deputy is very capable. He has all the capacity it takes to perform his functions. He understands what is good for Benue and that is exactly what he is doing,” Alia added.
He cautioned political speculators against spreading falsehood, stressing that his working relationship with Ode remains cordial.
“So if anybody is eating and dreaming Deputy, there is no vacancy. I love him, I enjoy working with him. I enjoy a personal relationship with him. For those wishing the negativity, they won’t have their way,” the Governor declared.
