2027: Nigerians ’ll determine next president not Patience Jonathan -Group

A social reform group, The Crusader, has said the Nigerian electorate, not former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, will largely influence the outcome of the forthcoming 2027 presidential election.
The group made the declaration on Wednesday in response to recent comments made by Dame Jonathan that she would campaign alongside current First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, while asserting that she has no intentions of returning to Aso Rock.
The comments she made sparked outrage from The Crusader, which insisted that the choice of leadership should rest exclusively with the citizens of Nigeria.
Spokesperson of the group, Adesola Babafemi, noted: “Dame Patience knows very well that if her husband decides to run for the presidency in 2027, he will receive overwhelming support from Nigerians.
“Moreover, she will certainly never be the First Lady again, but the people are ready to vote for him (Goodluck Jonathan, former President) en masse.”
Babafemi urged Patience Jonathan to refrain from speaking as if she represents Goodluck Jonathan, stating: “We call on her to desist from implying that she is the spokesperson for the former president, a position she does not hold.”
The group expressed frustration over what they termed ‘theatrical actions’ exhibited by Patience Jonathan during her tenure from 2010 to 2015, adding that Nigerians are tired of her influence on political matters.
“Her tenure ridiculed the Office of the First Lady, and it is time for the public to recognise that her past actions do not reflect the values we need in leadership today.”
