Irked by the non progress at the ongoing trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu on Tuesday, founder of the Biafra Independent Movement (BIM), Chief Ralph Uwazuruike has volunteered to take part in protest anywhere in the country to ensure his unconditional release.
Uwazuruike speaking to journalists in Owerri on Tuesday said he has decided to take part in the protest to save Ndigbo from further humiliation and injustice .
He said: “I listened to the court appearance of Nnamdi Kanu today and I listened to the presentation of his lawyers and wish to say that I want to be part of any peaceful demonstration in Abuja or anywhere in Nigeria for the release of Nnamdi Kanu.
“I’ve personally reached out to Barrister Alloy Ejimako long ago telling him that I want to be one of the defense witnesses of Nnamdi Kanu. Recently, I reminded him again, for this new development I want to be part of it; I’m ready to go to Abuja or any part of Nigeria where demonstration will take place provided it’s anchored on non violence; I will be there and I mean it .
“This is not all about Nnamdi Kanu; it’s all about Ndigbo, if anybody thinks Nnamdi Kanu is being humiliated today, no it’s Ndigbo that are being humiliated. There’s nothing like terrorism when my people were being killed in Southeast; were they terrorists, what did they do? When Ojukwu was declared to be arrested by DSS simply because he said he supported Uwazuruike, he was given a one way ticket to fly economy class to Abuja what did he do; it was just to humiliate Ndigbo by commanding our leader, Ojukwu to proceed to Abuja; so I know all these things very well”, Uwazuruike said.
He continued, “It has got nothing to do with Kanu, it has to do with Ndigbo; they tell us that we don’t matter in Nigeria and that we could be treated any how. If you talk of terrorism, how can you be negotiating with terrorists from another tribe, where’s the justice.
“So, it has nothing to do with Kanu, it has to do with injustice rooted in Nigeria against Ndigbo; that’s why I would be there; it could be anybody else, we have to do this because of the future of our children “, Uwazuruike stated.
