A teenage resident of Onitsha, Anambra State, has been swept to his death a ravaging flood caused by a downpour in the area.
It was gathered that the deceased, an apprentice trader whose identity is still unknown, got drowned while attempting to cross over a drainage that had plank as its cover, at Ochanja market round-about axis.
An eye-witness who identified himself as Ifejiofor said: “Immediately he stepped on the plank used to cross the gutter between the shop and the road, the plank broke and he fell into the deep gutter.
“He was washed away by the speeding flood to the Nwangene River. If he had waited for the rain to subside before stepping out of the shop, he wouldn’t have died.”
He added that efforts made by passers-by to rescue the deceased proved abortive as the body was swiftly swept away by the ravaging flood.
AbeyaNews gathered that a search party made up of traders and some motorists who made effort to rescue the deceased body returned empty-handed.
