Can you imagine? What would one not hear in Nigeria today? The days are evil. Yes, the recent news that an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Vincent Oke allegedly assaulted a minor, 17-year old miss Nkechi Blessing (not real name), has added to the rot in the nation’s public institutions.
It beats one’s imagination how a senior police officer who is also a father could descend to the level of assaulting an innocent girl kept in his custody. He not only had carnal knowledge of the girl but extorted the sum of N114,000 from her poor family. Oke is indeed a beast of no conscience.
The question is: what is the future of this nation if a critical security agent could shamelessly violate the law which he is supposed to uphold?
ASP Vincent Oke, serving at the Awgu Division of the Enugu State Police Command is already in trouble as the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ammani, has ordered that he be investigated over his alleged sexual assault of a female detainee.
Ammani who handed the order to the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (State CIID), assured the family of the victim and the public that justice would be duly served.
The CP’s order, AbeyaNews gathered followed a petition by the father of the victim, Mr. Godwin Utobo, to the Commissioner accusing ASP Oke of sexually assaulting his daughter and also extorting N114,000 from the family.
In the petition which was also sent to the State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, and the Women’s Aid Collective (WACOL), Utobo, who is a native of Afam Agunese Mmalu Awgu, in the Awgu Local Government Area of the State, said his daughter a teenager, was arrested on March 14, following a complaint by one Mr. Ndubuisi Michael who operates POS (Point of Sale) at Orie Awgu, whom she worked for, that she stole his money.
