Restructuring: You are no Pharaoh; stop acting like one, SMBLF tells Buhari

The Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF) has told President Muhammadu Buhari to stop acting like Pharaoh of ancient Egypt or an immovable Buddha on the issue of restructuring of the country, describing his reaction to the agitation for restructuring as very uncouth and rude.

Chief Guy, elder statesman and former Chairman of defunct NPP in old Anambra State

SMBLF’s umbrage at Buhari was contained in a statement issued and signed on behalf of the forum by the representatives of the regions including Chief Guy Ikokwu for South East; DR Isuwa Dogo for Middle Belt; Senator Bassey Henshaw for South South and Yinka Odumakin for South West.

The Forum described as ‘disturbing’ the President’s tendency to always talk down on Nigerians instead of giving assurances about making the country a more inclusive, viable state.

SMBLF stated that try as he could, President Buhari would not cow them with the use of cantonment approach to national issues.

Isuwa Dogo of Middle Belt Forum

The statement read in part: “The attention of Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum has been drawn to the very uncouth and rude warning issued by Garba Shehu, media aide to the president, against patriotic organizations and responsible individuals like the respected Pastor E A Adeboye, that this government should restructure the country to avert a break-up.

“We will not accept turning us to second class citizens in our land not even with threats of arrests or assassinations.

“Should we be clapping for the government and not talk when the Customs appoints 8 Deputy Comptrollers from a section of the country?

Senator Bassey Ewa Henshaw, South South

“Are we expected to be saying well done when DSS recruits 535 cadets from Northwest and North East and only 93 from the entire South and Noth Central?

“Are we to keep quiet when the law setting up PENCOM was clear on succession at Directors level yet you go and bring somebody  from North East to replace a South East eased out as DG?

“If Garba Shehu is not lexically challenged, he should know that those calling for restructuring are more patriotic than those running Nigeria towards implosion.

Yinka Odumakin, Spokesman for Afenifere

“Patriotism to corporate Nigeria is for all and not the sectional idea of Nigeria by the nepotists.

“We will not succumb to their narrow idea of Nigeria fully assured that this too shall come to pass.”

“Therefore, let us restructure now and withdraw from the path of implosion forewarned by patriots at home and abroad,” SMBLF stressed.
