In a show of solidarity, a former Governor of Anambra State and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has donated N30 million to Dominican University, Ibadan,.

The development reaffirmed his belief that education and moral integrity remain the twin pillars required to secure Nigeria’s future.

In a post on his verified verified ‘X’ handle on Monday – yesterday, January 26 – Obi said he made the donation during a visit to the university, where he engaged students in an interactive session aimed at encouraging academic excellence and upright character.

“I left Lagos at 5:30 a.m. and arrived in Ibadan by 8:00 a.m., heading straight to Dominican University to interact with the students.

“My goal was to encourage them to strive for excellence, not just academically, but also in character,” Obi wrote.

He described the interaction, which included a question-and-answer session, as enlightening and reassuring.

To him, “What I saw in these students gave me confidence that Nigeria still has a future,.

“Their questions were thoughtful, their curiosity genuine, and their commitment to learning very clear.”

Obi clarified that, his decision to support the institution financially was driven by his conviction that education remains the most sustainable investment any nation can make.

“I donated N30 million to support the university’s ongoing development because education is the cornerstone of progress, and no country can develop beyond the quality of education it provides to its people,” he noted.

Obi enthused about “a simple incident” at the end of his visit, which he said left a lasting impression on him and further strengthened his optimism about the country, explaining that he had forgotten his phone at the university but some found it and returned it to him.

“That single act of honesty deeply moved me,” Obi enthused, describing the gesture as a reflection of the values being instilled at the institution and noting that “that act of integrity spoke volumes about Dominican University.”

“It shows that the school is not only producing educated minds, but also shaping upright and responsible citizens,” Obi said.

The ADC presidential hopeful stressed that Nigeria’s long-term challenges can only be addressed by deliberately combining knowledge with strong ethical values.

“I firmly believe that if we place equal emphasis on education and moral integrity, Nigeria’s greatness is within reach.

“When our institutions intentionally nurture both competence and character, national renewal becomes inevitable,” he stressed.
