IPOB accuses military of aiding ‘Fulani expansionist agenda’ by bombing forest locations of ‘Fulani terrorists-hunting ESN’

From PAT NNADI, Nsukka

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has again absolved its Eastern Security Network (ESN) of any involvement in the activities of Unknown Gunmen in the South East geopolitical zone, saying yesterday’s bombing of Akpofu Nkanu forests in Enugu State by the military, ostensibly to dislodge unknown gunmen,  was, “in reality, an action taken to protect killer herdsmen by weakening or altogether destroying ESN positions in the forests where its operatives have always been based and operated in their fight against killer Fulani herdsmen who forage South Eastern forests and attack our communities therefrom.”

In a release issued today by Emma Powerful, Media and Publicity Secretary of the group, IPOB described as unprovoked the attack by a combined team of soldiers and other security operatives on the operatives of the Eastern Security Network ESN in Enugu on Friday (yesterday), insisting that the attack was carried out primarily to weaken or destroy altogether an internal security framework put in place by the people of the South East to protect their communities from violent attacks by killer Fulani herdsmen, from whom “Nigerian security agencies have failed or refused to protect South Easterners.”

“ESN operatives did nothing to warrant this unprovoked attack. ESN has only been defending the communities in the area against incessant attacks and destruction of farms by killer Fulani herdsmen. The hypocritical Nigerian security agencies have failed to protect Biafrans against the incursions by Fulani jihadists. Yet instead of allowing ESN to defend our ancestral land against invasion by terrorists, the Nigerian Army and other security agencies have been unleashed on an innocent volunteer security outfit safeguarding the lives of Biafrans,” IPOB charged in the statement by Powerful.

“This is the height of wickedness. Nigeria is aiding and abating terrorism. Fulani-controlled federal government gives tacit support to terrorists but crushes peaceful agitators. This is wickedness and hypocrisy which must never go unpunished.

“The same Fulani terrorists masquerading as herdsmen had for years been kidnapping, raping and killing locals in Nkanu and other communities in Biafraland until December 2020 when ESN was set up to flush them out of our forests. Now their real sponsors have come out to defend them against ESN by combing the forests in hunt of ESN operatives instead of the terrorists.

“Since Fulani herdsmen started their killing spree in Biafraland, has any of them been arrested let alone prosecuted by any security agency? Yet every other day, the Army and other security agencies have been hunting for ESN like wild animals (and) the cowardly South East governors and the evil political elite will still protect them. Police officers were not killed by ESN. The criminals who killed police officers ran into the bush where ESN operatives were staying

“ESN and IPOB members are not involved in attacks on security agents. Nigerian government and her military terrorists should leave IPOB and ESN alone because we do nothing wrong by protecting our people from Fulani terrorists who have crossed Akpofu community forests into Ebonyi State and other parts of Biafraland. We are calling on Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, to call Commander 82 Division  Enugu, to order. ESN and IPOB, repeat, did not kill any policemen. Nigerian army and police should not, out of hatred and or envy, attack ESN for the simple reason hat it is a successful civil security outfit organised by the Igbo to protect themselves from violent attacks by killer Fulani herdsmen, in the absence of protection by government security agencies.”
