#EndSARS: How hoodlums destroyed Ihiala, Nnewi unit commands of FRSC, by FRSC

FROM RAY OZOJI, Awka

Ihiala and Nnewi unit commands of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were victims of the terror and mayhem unleashed on public institutions by irate #EndSars protesters, the Anambra Command of the road safety agency has announced.

Whereas Ihiala unit command suffered lootings and vandalisation of significant parts of the office building, the Nnewi office of the FRSC experienced lootings, destructions as well as burning of a utility vehicle.

Sector commander of the corps in Anambra State CC, Andrew Ayodele Kumapayi who conducted a ‘sympathetic tour’ of the unit commands vandalised during the #EndSARS nationwide protests, said both units were ransacked by the miscreants.
Kumapayi said  the essence of the inspection visit was to assess the extent of damage on the facilities, adding that the outstations were destroyed beyond recognition including carting away of vital assets.

“They didn’t burn any vehicle in Ihiala but they vandalised it and destroyed it beyond recognition. They removed the windows and ransacked the office completely,” he agonised.

“In Nnewi, they removed the windows, carted away the air-condition, burnt the drivers’ license centre, burnt the generator on ground, absconded with impounded motorcycles, destroyed the water tank, looted the fans and after looting they set the place on fire.”

The sector commander stated that in spite of the damage done to the facilities, he had urged his officers and men at the affected unit commands not to be discouraged but brace up for greater tasks ahead especially as the yuletide season approached.

He said they should increase their presence on the highways and desist from township roads, stressing that those were within the purview of the state traffic agency except on extreme occasions of rescue operations.

Kumapayi, however, expressed profound gratitude and appreciation to Chief Innocent Chukwuma Ifediaso, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing and the federal lawmaker representing Nnewi-North, South and Ekwusigo federal constituency, Hon. Chris Emeka Azubogu for their timely intervention and great support in the ongoing renovation of Nnewi unit command of the Federal Road Safety Corps.
