ANAMBRA 2021 | Take your frustration over election loss elsewhere, leave Joy Emodi alone, group advises Andy Uba

From IFEOMA OKAFOR, Awka

The Anambra Progressives Youth Forum has advised the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the November 6, 2021 Anambra governorship election, Senator Andy Uba, to take his frustration over loss of the Anambra governorship election elsewhere and leave Senator Joy Emodi alone, describing as “innocuous advice” a statement by the former Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters at an in-house meeting of the APC, which the group said was made in good faith in an effort to move the party and Anambra State forward.

The group frowned at what it saw as media war against Emodi by Uba through the Senator Andy Uba Governorship Campaign Organisation (SAUGCO), and described as “a lie from the pit of hell”, SAUGCO’s claim that Emodi endorsed multiple aspirants, including Senator Uche Ekwunife and Valentine Ozigbo both of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the election.

In a statement by its Coordinator, Raphael Nwankwo in Onitsha earlier today, the group said: “During his birthday many months ago, Ozigbo requested Emodi to speak to his documentarians on his philanthropy, a request she readily obliged. But when much later they began to use it as an endorsement in the run-up to the governorship election, she pointed out to Ozigbo that she granted the interview solely for his birthday, not for his governorship aspirations. Ozigbo did not waste time in expunging it from his campaign materials.

“Nationally, Emodi is known as a principled woman and a woman of unwavering loyalty, who says only what she means and means whatever she says. Her stand on any issue is never in doubt and her pedigree, and antecedents in courage and integrity speaks for her. If indeed she endorsed anybody, she would have stuck with and fought for the person through it all.”

The Anambra Progressives Youth Forum said rather than get angry at Emodi for speaking the truth at an in-house meeting of Anambra APC leaders, Uba should instead blame those who shared her remarks on the social media.

“Our advice to Senator Andy Uba is to take Senator Emodi’s message in good faith. She spoke in-house and she spoke the truth.

“Is it not an open secret that Senator Andy Uba refused to campaign at the grassroots or to reach out to the masses of Anambra in the run up to the November 6 governorship election?

“Is it not true that the entire governorship affair was a one-man show in which key stakeholders were excluded and no known efforts were made to reach out to aggrieved party members following the rancorous governorship primaries that happened even before Senator Joy Emodi joined the APC?

“What else could have accounted for Andy Uba’s disastrous outing in the elections, but the reliance on anything but the ballots and the Anambra electorate? Otherwise, did the Anambra APC lack the human and material resources to mobilise the people and to stage a creditable and robust governorship bid, especially with people like Emodi now in the party?

“We, therefore urge Andy Uba not to be a bad loser, particularly when his loss, which included loss of his native Aguata Local Government Area to the eventual winner, was self-orchestrated and a disaster foretold.”

“He should leave Emodi alone, knowing that the party’s leader, President Muhammadu Buhari, had adjudged poll credible and gone ahead to congratulate the winner. Emodi’s remarks might taste bitter, as truth always does, but it does good to the body, in this case, the Anambra APC family”, the group concluded.
