Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Anambra State chapter, has denied reports that its youth wing has endorsed any candidate ahead of this November 6, Anambra governorship.

In a statement yesterday, President of the apex Igbo sociocultural organization in Anambra, Prince Emeka Udodeme, said the youth wing of Ohanaeze, which does not engage in partisan politics, and which has no state executive currently, could not have endorsed anybody for the forthcoming Anambra election.

“The attention of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Anambra State Chapter, has been drawn to an online publication claiming that a group of people under the name of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Movement, endorsed a particular candidate for November 6th Anambra gubernatorial election,” Udodeme’s statement read, in part.

“The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo strongly condemns the attitude of those miscreants, who do not hold any elective position in the socio-cultural organization. Ohanaeze does engage in partisan politics. We urge the general public to shun the activities of this deceptive group.

“Currently, the youth wing of Ohanaeze is temporarily suspended, pending the conduct of election of officers. The leadership of Ohanaeze recently released the timetable for the election of officers into the national youth and women wings of the organization. Election for the youth wing comes up August 5 while that of women wing comes up August 6.”

Godwin Ezeemo, governorship aspirant on the platform of PDP

Meanwhile, a leading aspirant in the recently-held primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Godwin Ezeemo, has pooh-poohed the allegation that he collected money from Governor Willie Obiano’s All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) government to destabilise the party, saying he had never considered monetary gains in any form as part of his reasons for being in politics.

Ezeemo who fumed over such ridiculous allegation said his decision to join the Chris Uba group during the primary election was taken that same morning by the overwhelming majority of his supporters and campaign organization, explaining that he had no other option than to follow their desire at that time.

Noting that his utmost desire in politics had always been to render selfless service towards making the society better, Ezeemo said he had never made any financial gain from politics but had, instead, continued to spend his hard-earned resources in the struggle to make the people of the state enjoy better life as obtained in Western countries.

According to him, rather than make such damaging allegations, people should ask questions about some top shots of the PDP allegedly under the payroll of the APGA administration but turned around to pretend that they were working for the PDP to take over power in the state.

He said it was his decision to participate in the Chris Uba-led group’s primary that paved way for the victory of Valentine Ozigbo in the one held at the Women Development Centre, Awka, otherwise, Dr Obiora Okonkwo from the Central zone would have carried the day.

Ezeemo said: “My not coming there was instrumental to Ozigbo winning the primary there. If I had been there, my people would have voted for me and we would have split the votes from the old Aguata area where Ozigbo and I come from. This would have given Obiora Okonkwo an edge to carry the day.

“Blackmail has been a stock-in trade of our people in politics. In 2013, some people alleged that I collected N4billion from Peter Obi, the outgoing governor then to destabilize APC. For someone like me, blackmail doesn’t move me an inch.”
