Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti has inaugurated the Labour Party (LP) Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections, with himself as the chairman; his deputy, Ikechukwu Emetu, deputy chairman and former Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Agwu U. Agwu as Director General.

Inaugurating the Council in Umuahia, Governor Otti charged the Council members to work with party structures and stakeholders at the grassroots to ensure victory for the party.

The governor told them the appointment of members was a call to service and not an opportunity for anyone to assume superiority over others.

He urged members to consider themselves as best among equals,” adding that the responsibility before them was to work collectively for the success of the party.

Otti reminded them that since independent candidacy was not yet allowed in Nigeria, everything about political campaigns is structured around political parties, and as such, they should work with all pro-groups of the party.

“Candidates must work with the leadership of the party and other stakeholders to achieve the objectives,” Gov. Otti said.

“You must work with the party’s pro-groups. The leadership for this campaign goes beyond people sitting here. Everybody is involved,” the governor stated.

Governor Otti also urged candidates to constitute their own campaign councils, saying such structures would strengthen the party and help it achieve better results.

He charged the Council to ensure that the 2027 campaign was issue-based, noting that the approach would be different from that of 2023.

He reminded them that while the 2023 campaign was largely characterised by promises, the 2027 campaign should focus more on issues, achievements and programmes that matter to the people.

Responding on behalf of other  members, the Director-General of the Council, Rt. Hon. Agwu, assured Governor Otti that the Council would work diligently not only to meet but exceed expectations.

Rt. Hon. Agwu described the assignment as a call to service for the people of Abia, and pledged to deploy their collective experience and commitment to secure victory for the Labour Party.
