Osun Transport Crisis: Popular thug ‘Emir’ shot dead in Ile-Ife Motor Park ambush

Oyeyemi Olalekan, a prominent Osun State transport official popularly known as “Emir,” has been shot dead in Ile-Ife following a violent escalation in the ongoing leadership crisis within the state’s transport sector.
Olalekan was accused of attempts to take over control of the parks from Alowonle, hence the lingering crisis.
Olalekan, a member of the State Transport Disciplinary Committee who was standing trial on charges of murder, terrorism, and cultism, was fatally shot in the head by masked gunmen at Mayfair Motor Park.
Sources revealed that Olalekan had attended a meeting at the park alongside his faction in an attempt to resolve a lingering feud with a rival group led by Wakili Nurudeen (Alowonle).
The attack triggered widespread panic as members of both factions fled the scene.
In the chaotic aftermath, a vehicle carrying several of Olalekan’s associates crashed near the Obafemi Awolowo University Campus Gate while attempting to escape.
The killing has heightened tension across Osogbo, particularly around Olalekan’s base in the Asoje area.
His associates have blamed the Alowonle faction for the assassination, though law enforcement has not independently verified the claim.
Olalekan’s death follows controversies, including allegations by the Osun State Transport Management System (OSTMS) that he led a violent park invasion to take
the park since 2024.
There was also a political friction over viral footage released by the All Progressives Congress (APC) prior to the August 15 governorship election, accusing him of opening the government house gate for his colleagues.
In response to the violence and killing of Olalekan, Governor Ademola Adeleke directed the State Commissioner of Police to immediately arrest all perpetrators.
In a press release through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor ordered all warring factions to vacate motor parks across the state and announced plans to issue an Executive Order reintroducing the Park Management System to restore order.
Adeleke urged the public to remain calm, assuring residents that security agencies have been instructed to enforce peace strictly and hold all responsible parties accountable without exception.
