Journalists of Nsukka extraction under the aegis of Nsukka Journalists Forum (NJF), have called on President Bola Tinibu to approve the creation of Adada State as a posthumous honour to the late Senator Okechukwu Ezea, who represented Enugu North Senatorial District of Enugu State, promoters of Adada State, of in the 10th Senate (2023-2025).
The call was contained in a statement issued Wednesday (Februay 11, 2026) in Nsukka and signed by the Forum’s Chairman, Mr. Benson Whyte Ezugwu and Secretary, Mr. Felix Oguejiofor Abugu.
Describing the late Senator as a vocal, fearless and courageous leader who openly defended the agitation for the creation of Adada State as part of a deliberate policy of addressing the marginalisation of the South East region of Nigeria, the NJF noted that such a leader loved by his people and regarded as the best senator that had emerged from the zone, should be posthumously recognised, adding that doing so would serve as a morale booster to future generation of leaders in the zone in particular and the country as a whole.
“Senator Okey Ezea fought very hard until his death, for the creation of Adada State on the floor of the Senate of the Federal Republic,” the journalists’ forum said.
“He was loved and cherished by his constituency; a consummate leader, generous and always ready to shoulder the needs of his people.
“Ezea was a democratic combatant ever ready to defend his people in the political front; he deserves a posthumous honour to serve a motivation to the younger political leaders, not only in Enugu North but beyond.
“We, therefore, passionately appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to grant him a posthumous honour by approving the creation of Adada State, which Ezea fought for politically on the floor of the senate.”
NJF, however, assured that as the late senator finalizes his final journey on this earthly plane on February 13 – that is Friday this week – his contributions to humanity will surely not go unnoticed.
“His brief stint in the red chamber was characterised by vibrancy and ultimate desire to serve his people and Nigeria at large.
“Surely, his exit leaves a deep hole in the political landscape of the Nsukka zone,” the Nsukka Journalists’ Forum said.
