EFCC denies speaking on the arrest of VDM

By Ndukaku Ihe

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday denied speaking to any media platform on the arrest of Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkBlackMan (VDM).

There have been reports credited to the EFCC Spokesman, Dele Oyewale, that the anti-graft agency had arrested the young man due to multiple petitions filed against him by individuals.

The EFCC, on its X handle on Monday evening, tagged such claims “fake” without further explanation, creating more confusion about the alleged arrest of VDM inside the GTB branch in Abuja last weekend.

Earlier reports claimed that it was the Police that arrested him. Another report later said it was the EFCC, the claim that has not been refuted until Monday evening.

VDM, who is known for his outspoken activism on social media, was arrested in Abuja shortly after visiting a branch of GTB with his mother to inquire about unexplainable deductions on her account.

With this latest development, the mistrust vast Nigerians have against the security agencies in the country may have been widening.
